What is ISPM 15?
ISPM 15 stands for International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15, a set of regulations established by the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC). These regulations aim to prevent the spread of pests and diseases through wooden packaging materials used in international trade. ISPM 15 mandates that wooden packaging must undergo a specific heat treatment process to eliminate any potential pests or pathogens.
Understanding ISPM 15 Heat Treatment
The International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15 (ISPM 15) is a critical regulation designed to prevent the spread of pests through wooden packaging materials in international trade. ISPM 15 heat treatment involves heating wooden pallets and other packaging materials to a core temperature of at least 56°C for a minimum of 30 minutes, effectively eliminating harmful pests.

| Parameter | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Minimum wood core temperature | 56°C |
| Minimum time at that temperature | 30 continuous minutes |

| Mark applied | IPPC logo – IN – 469 – HT |
Both methods are approved under ISPM 15. Heat treatment uses no chemicals and is accepted everywhere. It is best for new packaging made before the goods are packed. Methyl bromide fumigation suits packaging that is already loaded with goods or stuffed in a container. If you need packaging treated chemically, see chemically treated pallets.
Engineering and auto-component exporters, pharma and chemical companies, textile exporters, packaging contractors and freight forwarders across Mumbai, Bhiwandi, Vasai, Palghar, Tarapur and Pune use our ISPM 15 heat treatment for regular export programmes.
ISPM 15 heat treatment is the approved method of heating wood packaging until the core of the thickest piece reaches at least 56°C and stays there for at least 30 continuous minutes. It kills wood-boring insects without chemicals.
Temperature probes are inserted into the core of the thickest pieces of wood in the chamber. Treatment time is counted only after every probe reads 56°C or more, and the record is kept for audit by the Plant Quarantine authority.
Heat treatment (HT) is accepted by all countries that follow ISPM 15. It is the safest choice when you are not sure whether a destination accepts methyl bromide.
Yes. You can bring your pallets, boxes, crates or loose timber for wooden pallet heat treatment, or buy ready heat treated pallets from our packaging division.
Heat treatment kills existing pests but does not leave a residue. Store treated wood in a clean, dry place. Under ISPM 15, the treatment stays valid unless the packaging is repaired or remanufactured.
